All students are expected to read 250 pages of outside/independent material each semester at King High School. In my class the students will read some novels that are assigned by the teacher as well as be able to choose their own. Students will need to "active read" their novel. Active Reading is note taking in the book. The students must own the novel that they are reading. For your child to active read the outside book, they have to buy it, but it is worth 100 points if it's completely active read. After the book is complete the students will have a formal essay to write as well as have a test to check comprehension.
Active Reading: Notes, Highlights, Chapter End Notes and Character Page
Oral Question: The student has three chances to PROVE the book was read from start to finish. SPARKNOTES, Cliff Notes, Pink Monkey and other sites will not help you pass these questions.
Written Report: Follow the format that is provided on Blackboard.
Important: If a student fails the Oral Questions, the book report will not be graded and the student will get 0 out of 400 points. PLEASE: DON'T TRY TO FOOL ME. I CATCH OVER 10 STUDENTS A YEAR and it just ruins my day!
